Welcome to The Holt

The Holt B&B, Benenden is a comfortable detached house in 2.5 acres of secluded woodland and gardens offering one double room and one twin bedroom both with en-suite facilities, free wi-fi, and clean comfy beds.

We are now pleased to take bookings, but still Covid-19 cautious

The Holt makes a great base for a relaxing stay and is just a short drive away for Sissinghurst, Great Dixter, Scotney Castle, Smallhythe Place, Bodiam Castle and the glorious Kent and Sussex coutryside with lovely walks on the doorstep. (See our local eating & places page for more places to visit nearby)

Kate and Tim will be pleased to help make your stay in the 'Garden of England' as easy and enjoyable as possible. Having always lived in Kent they are very happy to help you plan your visit and maybe discover some of the less well known hidden gems in the area.

Set away from the small local road our bed and breakfast is virtually undisturbed - the only regular sounds being the distant ringing of the church bells, birds and wildlife, and the occasional distant puffing of steam trains running in the Tenterden vale.

We have car parking in our own grounds, immediately adjacent to the house, for visitors.

Our rooms

The B&B rooms overlook the private garden either across the fields towards the 15th century church at the head of Benenden Village Green or towards our bluebell filled woods. See our accommodation page for more detail

Each has its own private en-suite facilities, with shower, WC and wash basin. The rooms have televisions (internet connected) and connections for memory sticks for viewing digital media. There is free wi-fi around the house.

For the cooler months the whole house is centrally heated.

One room has a 'king size' double bed and the other two single beds (with an optional extra 'roll-out' bed) - all rooms are non-smoking.

The house is decorated with fresh flowers and greenery from the garden - do tell us in advance if you are a hay fever sufferer!

Home cooked breakfast with local produce (subject to the restrictions imposed by Covid-19 at the time)

A warm welcome
Bluebell filled woods

We offer a delicious breakfast, served in our pretty dining room with a view of the garden. You can choose from freshly prepared fruit; pastries - typically croissant, pain au chocolat, and pain au raisin; a selection of cereals; natural yogurt; toast from home-made bread; and conserves that include our own honey, marmalade, blackcurrant and strawberry jams.

By request, we will be pleased to prepare fresh eggs - boiled, poached or scrambled.

This is accompanied by your choice of a cafetière of freshly brewed coffee, a selection of teas, or hot chocolate; local apple juice, chilled orange juice and fresh milk.

On fine days there will be a chance to take tea and home made cake on arrival in the garden or, in less clement weather, in the dining room.

We have had excellent feedback from our guests - a sample of the guest book can be seen here - hopefully you will have chance to add your comments when you stay with us!

The local village of Benenden and the woodland walks of Hemsted Forest are less than a 10 minute stroll - you can look at our online Google map that shows the very local sights. The Holt B&B makes a great base to explore the delights of Kentish villages and towns including Sissinghurst (2.5 miles), Cranbrook (3 miles), Smallhythe Place (4 miles), Great Dixter (7 miles), Tenterden (7 miles), Bodiam Castle (10 miles), Scotney Castle (10.5 miles), Rye (14 miles) and Leeds Castle (22 miles).

There are great pubs and restaurants locally as well as lots more attractions a walk or a short drive away as shown on our local eating & places page.

Benenden is fortunate in having two individual country pubs. The Bull is an easy walk and serves a wide range of food and drink together with roaring log fires for the cooler English days. The Woodcock is a lovely 40 minute walk away through the the Roman Strawberry Wood Culvert. If you just fancy a stroll to the village for a morning coffee and a paper we are pleased to be supporters of our village community shop and coffee bar (great coffee!) 'Benendens'.

Benenden Girls School is a ten minute walk away and Benenden Hospital a short drive. The Grange just off Benenden green is home of the famous Collingwood 'Cherry' Ingram garden.
